RM Ranking and Tucker Trophy (November 08, 2007)
Apologies for the lateness of this article,but on the 28 October ,the RM Ranking and Tucker Trophy sailed in the weirdest weather yet at Charnwood Water.For Charnwood Water thats quite a feat.A small fleet 10 sailors attended , but 5 clubs from around the country were represented so not too bad.
In the morning the boats were down in full area 'c' suit due to the gusting winds straight down the lake, which gave interesting racing.Rain held off until lunch when it poured down, after which the sun came out and the wind totally disappeared.So boats were back in 'a' suit trying to chase what wind there was (if it stayed in the same direction).Races were then taking 20mins with a shortened triangle only course.RO Tony Edwards adopted a 'see how it goes' approach to setting course due to wind being so variable, and seemed to work most of time.No rules about having a beat start is there !.
At the end of the day ,local sailor Mike Weeks was taking home the Tucker 'brick' Trophy by being the more consistent,Mike had 2 wins against Rogers 5.
So the final placings and scores are as follows;
1st Mike Weeks 19pts
2nd Roger Stollery 21pts
3rd Roy Stevens 26pts
4th Mick Shillington 28pts
5th Alf Reynolds 41pts
6th Don Charlesworth 47pts
7th Peter Collins 54pts
8th Roy Waddington 57pts
9th Phil Stevenson 64pts
10th Mark Mortimore 81pts
